Abstract:
Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of connected things. The principle of IoT can be used in the educational system promoting the interaction for example between students and teachers. Using different electronic devices, the internet, and learning platforms, it is possible to include educational activities in the classroom. The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, it proposes a formal definition of Internet of Education (IoEd) and, second, it proposes an empirical model for the IoEd based on the principles of IoT. This paper analyzes relevant articles about the IoT especially linked to education and introduces a case study of the use of a free game-based learning platform used as a learning tool. Using the main characteristics of IoT and the particularities of education, a formal definition for IoEd is proposed. Also, by the analysis of secondary information about IoT and education, an empirical model is proposed, that finally is validated using the case study. This research is valuable because introduces for the first time the idea of IoEd. Proposes a formal definition of IoEd and the empirical model for its application.
