Abstract:
In higher education, one of the most challenging tasks for a teacher is perhaps to get the attentiveness of the students in class, and even more so, that that attention does not decline as the explanation progresses. In this research the attention paid by university students of Agricultural Engineering from the University of Almeria in a subject, Surveying and Geographic Information Systems has been analysed. For this purpose, a Bot has been used on Telegram application of instant messaging developed by the authors of this work, ZQuizUALbot. This free tool was installed in the mobile phones of the students of the subject and allowed the teacher to ask questions in class regarding the explanation given, both true or false and multi-response, which were answered in class by the students immediately. A total of 30 questions were asked throughout the academic year exclusively in the theory classes taught by means of a masterclass, and in the second quarter of 2019. A total of 527 answers were obtained in class, making an average of 18 answers for each question in class. The objective of this communication is to show the result of the immediate understanding or attentiveness of the teacher's explanation, through the statistical analysis of correct answers offered by the students themselves in class to the questions posed. It was observed that approximately 50% of the students' answers were not correct, and this immediately after the explanation in class had taken place. This work aims to be a starting point for a reflection on traditional teaching methods in the university in general and engineering studies in particular, where learning is achieved through motivation, for which it is necessary to awaken the interest of students for the subjects to be worked on and alternative forms of motivation must be searched for. Keywords:
