Abstract:
Creative skills are part of the resources needed to transmit knowledge and ideas in a world based on images. In the current context, illustration becomes a tool to transmit values to society in a visual and quick way.

Sustainable Development Goals are a significant topic for any sector, either public or private. Considering that the deadline for their achievement is fixed for the year 2030, illustration becomes a fundamental tool for their diffusion. This project relates the experience of a group of University students working on conceptual illustration to promote Sustainable Development Goal number four: education.

In the context of fine arts education, conceptual illustration is essential because of its thinking and reflexive process. The work process and realization of the image in this workshop becomes the most important part of it. Starting with a brainstorming and representation of basic concepts through simple drawings, the students work on complex ideas to turn them into an illustration.

The objectives are, on one hand, to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goal on education, and on the other hand, the graphic representation of complex concepts. For the final illustration, there was also another requirement, the use of a color palette limited to red and blue.

As conclusions of the workshop, we highlight that it is possible to learn and raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals through illustration, and, more specifically, with conceptual illustration.
