Abstract:
The progressive implementation of English as a teaching language in Spanish Universities is one of the pending tasks of the University. This is more important for a Master's Degree, as the amount of abroad students is significantly higher than of Degrees. Besides, students have to get used to technical English, both written and spoke, given that the chances are they will often use this language in their professional career. In this sense, the implementation of English taught courses are decidedly beneficial. Biostatistics is a fundamental subject for advanced training in the Master of Analytical Techniques of the Clinical Laboratory. The subject involves mathematical tools to statistically treat analytical results from biological samples, to extract clinical information. The current work details an innovative study about the introduction of English as a teaching language in the subject “Biostatistics”. The group of students will increase their communication and comprehension skills, in both oral and writing, through complete immersion in this language. These tasks are focus on the use of English in all aspects of the subject: didactic material, bibliography, deliverable tasks, and written exams; regardless of English proficiency. Additionally, the students and the teacher will use spoken English in class and tutorials. In general, high qualifications were reached, and the students had a positive valuation about the project. As a result, students proposed the implementation of teaching in English in the other subjects of the Master.Keywords:
