Abstract:
All the degrees in Chemistry includes a first course, usually divided in two quadrimesters, devoted to general chemistry. This initiation is arranged in chemical equilibria, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physical. All the parts go trough theory and practice classes. These matters facilitate the contact of the students with all the aspects of the chemistry. In this study, we included in voluntary form, all the students (n=178) of the first course of chemistry at Universitat Jaume I from courses 2015-16 to 2017-18. For these studies we introduced one first test about primary knowledge in chemistry. Next activity was the elaboration of an exam-test about for each chemical theme. Third, we took as consideration the practices elaborated by students as chemical titrations and cation determinations. Finally, we took in account the points obtained in the final exam. Results indicates that before starts the matters, the points obtained in theory and practice classes was 4.1±2.4. After chemistry classes and the exams/test performed to the students, the points increase to 6.6±1.2. Practices were the most important achievement, obtaining 8.2±1.5 points. Results concludes that the general courses about general chemistry are very important for the students and allows them to understand specialized matters about analytical, physical, inorganic and organic chemistry.
