Abstract:
This paper emphasize the importance of implementing a social-justice based service-learning pedagogy into the current “Education for Citizenship and Human Rights” class in Spain, as a means of creating a culture of peace. Service learning, which has been rapidly growing over the past two decades in America, has become popular because of its adaptability to a variety of academic themes and social plights. Service learning is a type of experimental learning, in which the learning process is facilitated by the students’ involvement in social problem solving. It can be applied to a variety of academic areas. However, with the goal of creating a culture of peace, service learning is most beneficial when related to community issues, such as the environment, social injustices, or political science lessons in civics and democracy.
