Abstract:
This paper explores the experience between undergraduate students of the School of Industrial Design incorporated into a field of Fondecyt research Project No. 11130394 funded by National Science and Technology Commission of Chile, to design and develop consistent materials based on Paneles Arauco Co., requirements the largest producer of wood boards Company in Latin America. This is a planning experience project that brings students to the working reality of Regional environment contributing to their formation, from the generation of products made in a laboratory and research environment, but involving production and market variables of business world. It is an experience that allows to balance the project view from research and interdisciplinary, as well as the expectations generated by designing a product for a leading company in the industry. The traditional design process is complemented by methodologies from Kansei Engineering, while 3D support equipment at the stage of ideation of proposals to meet times arranged by the company. The proposals address boards with new visual textures and lighting applications, in search of new opportunities for timber raw material base. The design allows companies to differentiate themselves from competitors, optimize communication of values, makes better customized products based on the needs of users and more respectful of the environment, creating environments that promote a better life quality. The correct use of corporate design management together with implementation of public policies consistent with this purpose, make the appropriate time to introduce the innovation applied to productive and service sectors. The search for synergies that increase competitiveness of business is permanent in times where global economic and market dynamics move rapidly. Therefore, the interaction between education, business and research represents an interesting strategy to achieve better standards in new products and thus, higher expectations of success in the market. The participation of various stakeholders has generated an enriching experience for everyone as it has helped us understand the contributions that each member from their perspective, generated for obtaining innovative proposals.Types of products developed has covered both placing in the market managed and produced products by companies, allowing renew offer, as well as enabled the development and implementation of products, which have improved production processes of a large company involved. This way, the government acts as a promoter of these initiatives, providing resources that represent the beginning of partnerships promote innovation. In countries with economies leaders the innovation and competitiveness, the design is identified as rising value, an unmissable factor for businesses to grow and their products and services to be in accordance with demands and expectations of users.
