Abstract:
This research tried to examine the impact of using training based instruction in developing student teachers' teaching skills at Imam University, a public University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while teaching the curriculum and methodology courses. Training based instruction was based on the philosophy of active learning. The training based instruction in this research depended on four active learning based strategies: One-minute paper, Venn diagram, Jigsaw, and Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R) which were implemented in combination to enable students to apply them in their future career. Being a student-centered learning approach, training based instruction was utilized. In addition, such an approach depended on assessment for learning through the use of the one-minute paper which is considered a reflective learning journal. Statistical analysis of the data collected revealed the effectiveness of the training based instruction in developing students' achievement and teaching skills.
