Abstract:
The modern world is always changing presenting an educated person with continuous new challenges. The present work deals with the challenges in the modern world and the key changes aligning with the current global trends.
The main directions of development are aimed at improving access to the quality of education and science, developing analytical thinking, research and academic communication skills of a modern person, preparing a successful, competitive individual for high-quality scientific research.
Our purpose is to promote the introduction and development of close and straightforward cooperation between higher educational / scientific institutions (for our part, these are Tbilisi and Batumi State Universities) and secondary education schools, yielding significant results for both parties involved. Specifically, our first task is to offer students (and also teachers) in secondary education schools the teaching of different disciplines with the help of different branches of linguistics (specifically, in this first stage, it is toponymics). This method has already been tested in several schools in Tbilisi. Specifically, with the help of toponymics, as an applied discipline, several studies have been conducted on subjects such as history of Georgia, geography and civil education. Based on the thematic analysis, we selected interesting toponyms and delivered a presentation, with a discussion afterwards. As an example, we presented the history of several toponyms (researched by our group too): Phasis, Aia-Kutaia and Mtsvane Kontskhi (Green Cape).
The objective of our group was to show to the students how the toponyms Φᾶσις and Αἶα / Κύταια are reflected in ancient and Latin sources, where they are discussed by the authors of antiquity and how real the incorporation of the legendary Aia into the territory of the Chorokhi River is.
On the example of another geographical name (Mtsvane Kontskhi), we looked at how one of the famous vacation spots near the city of Batumi has changed over the centuries.
The result was impressive - the students' interest in the mentioned subjects, the percentage and quality of learning the material increased, and prospects for further joint work were highlighted. Keywords:
