Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of the virtual classroom by using WiziQ platform on students’ achievement and motivation. The sample of this study composed of all undergraduate students enrolled in the course of “Educational and Information technology, TECH25001” in Diploma of Higher Qualification at Sultan Qaboos University in spring semester 2015-2016. The total number of the students who enrolled in the course was (N=42) students. Participant students were divided randomly into two groups control and experimental group (17 and 25 students respectively). Data collection tools included an academic achievement test and motivation scale. To assess students’ achievement in the different groups, pre- and post-achievement tests were used. Independent t-tests were used to test for significance. The results of the study show that there is significant difference in the means scores of the post test between the control group and experimental group in favor of experimental group. The results also showed that that there is significant difference in the means scores of the motivation between the control group and experimental group in favor of experimental group. It indicated that learners in both groups were overall satisfied with the course content. However, concerning the satisfaction dimension, the results showed no significant difference between the two groups.
