EVIDENCE OF KNOWLEDGE ASSIMILATION IN GROUP PSYCHOLOGY: A GENIALLY-BASED ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING PROGRESS

Abstract:
In the field of Higher Education, the integration of interactive learning tools has become essential for fostering student engagement and improving pedagogical outcomes. A key component of this training is to position students as active participants in their own learning, helping them construct knowledge. Using interactive quizzes—like those created with Genially—has transformed the way we approach classroom assessment; by moving away from "pen and paper" anxiety, these tools turn evaluation into an engaging experience. In the context of the Group Psychology subject, traditional lecture-based methods often face challenges in ensuring the active assimilation of complex psychosocial concepts. This study explores the efficacy of using gamified quizzes via the Genially platform as a tool for both diagnostic and formative assessment. A quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design was employed with a sample of undergraduate Psychology students. The procedure involved the administration of a 15-item Genially quiz at two distinct time points: prior to the introduction of a specific topic (T1) to establish a baseline of prior knowledge and immediately following the instructional period (T2). The teaching intervention between T1 and T2 followed a multi-modal approach, combining masterclasses with the integration of audiovisual materials and group dynamics.

Comparative analysis between T1 and T2 scores indicates a statistically significant improvement in knowledge assimilation. The results suggest that the iterative use of Genially quizzes allows students to identify knowledge gaps and reinforce learning objectives effectively. Furthermore, the data reveals that the quizzes served as an advantageous measurement tool as well as the overall success in content mastery was driven by the synergy between the gamified platform and a diversified teaching methodology. The study concludes that Genially quizzes are a highly effective instrument for enhancing the learning experience in Group Psychology, providing immediate feedback to students and valuable data for teachers. The findings support the shift toward hybrid pedagogical models where gamification acts as a catalyst for deeper understanding when paired with collaborative and visual learning strategies.
