Abstract:
Scientix is the web-based community for science education in Europe open for teachers, researchers, policy makers and anyone interested in science education. Scientix is operated by European Schoolnet (www.europeanschoolnet.org) on behalf of the European Commission (DG Research - FP7 Science in Society Programme).

Scientix gives access to teaching materials, research results and policy documents from European science education projects financed by the European Union and by various national initiatives. This project was created to facilitate regular dissemination and sharing of know-how and best practices in science education across the European Union. Scientix collects teaching materials and research reports from European science education projects financed by the European Union under the 6th and 7th Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development (Directorate General Research), the Lifelong Learning Programme (Directorate General Education and Culture) and various national initiatives.
The Scientix project started in December 2009 and the website was launched in May 2010. This portal is available in six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Polish.
The Scientix portal (http://scientix.eu) offers a resource repository containing hundreds of teaching materials from European projects, but also research reports and policy-making documents; a translation on demand service for the teaching materials towards any of the 23 languages of the European Union; a community including a forum and chat rooms; an online news service featuring international science education topics and a calendar of forthcoming events and training opportunities; and also a newsletter sent once a month to registered users.
Besides, several events and workshops will be organised in the next 3-years. The main event is the Scientix conference (May 6 - 8, 2011), which promotes networking among the science and education community and provide feedback on the services offered online. A monthly newsletter is also sent out to provide information about updates on the portal.
