Abstract:
This paper presents the authors’ experience in undertaking the requirements engineering process for an admission system for a private university in Uganda. This system was visualized as a support tool to the current admission practices through providing content management system functionality for curriculum information, applications processing (such as application form enrollment) and student’s identity management. The techniques at each stage of the process from elicitation, analysis, specification, validation to change management of requirements are discussed highlighting domain specific limitations as well as benefits. Relevant anecdotes are strategically presented throughout the paper to illuminate the documentation of the experiences with hands-on situations to facilitate the appreciation of how classical theory and knowledge of requirements engineering was leveraged to deliver a pragmatic solution scope.
