Abstract:The incorporation of the new subject of Research Monographs in the fourth year of Secondary School opens up an interesting way to approach the work of the student research: its purpose is to implement working methods and techniques that focus on inquiry, research and creativity.
Due to the pilot, we have encompassed various aspects of conducting an interdisciplinary research work in which the student's own testing is that it leads to a few conclusions.
This work meets research monograph, therefore, the following principles:
• Make something tangible (prototypes and objects).
• Contribution to engage in some way connected to the real world, work and occupations of real life adult and post-schooling.
• Election axis as a subject that has connection with reality.
• The student knows the real work, following the complete development process from planning, stages of implementation and achievement of the final result.
• Encourage the participation of everyone in the discussions, decision making and implementation of the project, without prejudice to the shared duties and responsibilities.
To achieve these principles to a printed work and encourage interdisciplinary essentially the combination of different types of learning, according to the project "Heritage VIGIA. Sponsor a site of cultural interest" by Forum UNESCO University and Heritage at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and since our interest focuses on sponsorship of the remains of the wall that delimits the founding city of Vila-real, in which his most prominent feature is the "Torre Motxa", we performed a theoretical and practical work to be unified in the content areas of Plastic and Visual Education, Chemistry, Biology and Technology, in addition to providing a working model of self discipline researchers and scientists, followed by the technical education university.
To achieve these objectives we have focused on knowledge of systems and building materials from antiquity to the Middle Ages, and the study of the defensive systems. The work is structured as follows:
- Finding information about building materials and systems of different historical eras, focusing on technical innovations.
- Knowledge of the specific vocabulary of the area.
- Knowledge and study of the mediaeval building systems.
- Knowledge and study of materials: lime, sand, gravel.
- Creation of prototypes: shuttering.
- Study of the chemical process cycle lime.
- Working knowledge of the lime cycle.
- Development of prototype: mortars.
- Development of prototype: tapial.
- Process analysis and compilation of final conclusions.
