Abstract:
This paper aims to discuss the importance of technology-enhanced learning in Art and Design education with emphasis on the computer as a teaching and learning tool. The range of art learning and teaching that can be accomplished through the use of computer cannot be overemphasized. The paper also discusses the various ways in which computer technologies can be used in the Painting, Graphics, Ceramics, Textile and Sculpture classrooms. This paper also discusses the status of computer and its usage in the Department of Art, Design and Printing Technology of the Polytechnic Ibadan, Nigeria. This study was conducted using simple questionnaires. The results of the study reveal that, the overall status of computer usage in the Department is underutilized. Computers are not properly utilized by the Lecturers and Students. The paper concludes that technolgy enhanced learning should be introduced. It also concludes that computer technologies as teaching and learning aids should be introduced in art and design schools. In conclusion, it proffers suggestions for better teaching with computer technologies for teachers and learning for students.
