Abstract:
The formation of a successful nation relies on the success, abilities, skills and interests of each and every individual. These are the elements that determine the successful development of a nation’s human capital. Students, in particular, have strong aspirations and interests as they have the tendency to dream big. These elements are the key factors that influence their career pathways. This is where the teachers and parents significant roles in moulding and fuelling the students’ career directions. Parents are responsible for providing various opportunities for their children to encourage them to grow and polish their abilities. Teachers, on the other hand, are responsible for providing students with guidance and counselling, especially to those who are going to leave school life, to determine the course of their future. These young adults rely on their parents and teachers to help them make the right decisions for their future career directions. Positive approaches and feedbacks will motivate the students to pursue their dreams and showcase their potential that will later on become important assets to the country. This conceptual paper will discuss in details on roles and influences of both parties in determining the students’ future career, along with suggestions to improve the current roles existed in Malaysian educational system framework.
