Abstract:
This study examines the level of job satisfaction among teachers in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language (TCFL) in two universities in Harbin city, China. The instrument used for the research methodology was a modified version of the Job Descriptive Index (JDI) questionnaire with items on the demographic factors, work itself, co-workers, supervision / supervisor, income, opportunities for promotion and overall job satisfaction. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 16.0 through frequency counts, T-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
The result of the study indicates that TCFL teachers are satisfied with work itself, co-workers and supervision, but not satisfied with income and opportunities for promotion. There is no significant difference between male and female TCFL teachers with respect to satisfaction on five job factors. TCFL teachers with PhD degree have higher job satisfaction than teachers with bachelor and master degree. Teachers with more than 10 years of service feel more satisfied in the aspect of supervision, income and opportunities for promotion than teachers with no more than 10 years experience. Permanent teachers show higher satisfaction on income and opportunities for promotion than nonpermanent teachers. Keywords:
