Abstract:
This article examines the impact of globalization on developing countries education policy and practices, and the mismatch it creates between educational policy and practice in Ethiopia. From these five ways in which globalization has a major impact on education, this study focuses on discussing the impact of globalization on education through ICT which is a new area of globalization. In order to implement their education policy, developing countries become highly dependant on ideologies of international organizations like UNESCO and financial assistances from donors and institutions like African Development Bank, World Bank and IMF. This in turn pressures developing countries to adopt the recommendation and statements forwarded by these institutions with little attempt of contextualizing to their reality. The study revealed that through this kind of interactions, globalization is influencing the education policy of developing countries. It also revealed that, through the introduction of ICT - plasma TV instruction, it creates mismatches between the education policy and practices.
