Abstract:
Cluster school concept were difined differently according to the context. One of the most common concept is clustering schools based on geographical factor for sharing resources and expertise.In the Malaysian context, cluster schools are excellent schools with their own niche in academic and co-curricular areas. The cluster school project in Malaysia was introduced to provide opportunities for excellent schools to develop their niche areas in academic and co-curricular activities This study aims to determine the leadership challenges and commitment faced by head teachers in leading and sustaining their school status as a cluster school. Data was collected qualitatively through in-depth interviews with the head teachers. Five headteachers who is currently heading cluster school were selected as samples . The findings indicated the challenges that faced by the leaders in developing and sustaining the cluster school status. The major themes that emerged from the study include leadership capacity, human resources and organizational commitment and financial resources.Keywords:
