LINGUO-CULTURAL COMPONENT IN TEACHING OF FRENCH AT UNIVERSITY

Abstract:
Modern educational standards require effective methods and forms of interaction with students. Nowadays linguo-cultural aspect is widely used with the following aims: in communicative, socio-cultural and linguo-cultural competences forming, preparation for international language exams, and motivation for learning a foreign language and broaden students` horizons. The educational system is given not only the task of basic aspects teaching– writing, speaking, reading and listening, but also preparation of students for effective communication with the representatives of other cultures and countries. Such interaction is possible only through students` acquaintance with the history and culture of the country of the language being studied, focus on the value system, traditions, customs and peculiarities of the language speakers, in other words, when the students` sociocultural competence is successfully formed. The aim of the present research is the analysis of the use of the linguo-cultural component in the teaching process and linguo-cultural competence forming. We have analysed the Student`s Book and The Workbook for Beginners (studying French) named “Edito A1” and “Le français.ru А1”. The significance of the linguo-cultural component in teaching French at the initial stage is substantiated. The language material including realia, culture-specific vocabulary is considered. The paper uses the following empirical methods of research: comparison, monitoring, analysis and synthesis of the material under investigation. It`s also necessary to note that the paper contains statistical treatment of the received data and their interpretation. The development of socio-cultural competence is impossible without due regard to the linguo-cultural aspect when teaching foreign languages. The problem of the effective use of the linguo-cultural material in the teaching process was studied by many methodologists and scientists, but till nowadays this problem has remained urgent since there is a certain necessity of developing of the students` abilities to communicate effectively with representatives of other countries. The study found that both “Edito A1” and “Le français.ru А1” contain the linguo-cultural component, but at the same time , the authentic Books place emphasis on the linguo-cultural competence forming, whereas the authors of “Le français.ru А1” give greater consideration to phonetics and development of grammar and vocabulary skills. It has been demonstrated that the linguo-cultural component is an effective motivational incentive both to learn a foreign language, and to expand the students` horizons.
