Abstract:
This research deals with the question of whether or not Studio Culture is complied with the Islamic working and learning methods. Studio culture was generally developed with the western secular methodological consideration and then adapted by Islamic countries. This research aims at evaluating the appropriateness of implementing Islamic working and learning methods in the design studio, thus, creating a culture that may provide solutions for the improvement and development of the design studio tradition. The discussion covers relevant literature of two parent studies; current studio culture in architectural design studio, and Islamic working and learning methods. This literature review has the purpose of identifying the critiques and problems encountered in the design studio culture, and analysing the potential of implementing Islamic working and learning methods in the design studio. This research was an example of multi-disciplinary research that combined the fields of architectural education and Islamic perspective of education. By recommending new working and learning methods in the design studio based on Islamic perspectives, it is hoped that this research could benefit architectural students, architectural academicians, and architectural practice.
