Abstract:
This study investigates the impact of a mathematics enrichment program in improving academic performance and problem-solving abilities in outstanding first-year students at King Saud University. The program involved 24 hours of instruction spread over six weeks, with four hours of weekly sessions. Meanwhile, a control group of 100 high-achieving students followed their regular study routine. The results showed that the average scores of the experimental group, the students who used the enrichment program, and the control group the students who used the traditional method, differed statistically significantly at the 0.05 level, with a large effect size value favoring the experimental group in the problem-solving test. At the significance level of 0.05, there was a statistically significant difference in favor of the experimental group's average accomplishment test scores between the control and experimental groups, with a large effect size value. The square of the correlation coefficient for academic achievement, which is 0.401, indicates that academic achievement explained 40% of the variance of the experimental and control groups and both pre-post measurements in favor of the post-application. Similarly, the mathematical problem-solving test for outstanding students explained 24% of the variance of the experimental and control groups and both pre-post measurements.
