Abstract:
This paper outlines a framework for developing peace education programs in higher education at postgraduate institutions. Historical peace education programs are reviewed and integrated into a comprehensive program of substantive peace education content and pedagogy. The historical programs reviewed include the Integral Model of Peace Education, Learning to Abolish War. The intent of this paper is to outline a Peace Education Program (PEP), working with formal B-schools and non-formal centers, in order to educate teachers and citizens with the knowledge, values, skills and capacities conducive to the social transformation of repressive cultures. The outlined program is generated from an analysis of historical Peace Education programs, adapting the best of each, and showing them in specific time-place contexts as part of the history of Peace Education.
Education is merely a process to get a job. But in real sense value orientation of education has become an important aspect in today’s education system. To nurture this, one need to change the typical structure of educational system. The erosion of culture, values and ethics in society has brought to us the need for this study. Through such study, we can inculcate the students to be a responsible citizen of the nation with social and moral values. Such education can be an effective tool to take out the evils from the society. These evils could be discrimination on cast, creed, religion, gender, violence, bribe, superstition, fatalism, etc.
We take a pride to say that India is a prosperous country with glorious tradition and rich cultural heritage. To conserve this cultural richness,we need an education which creates better human beings.Mahatma Gandhi believed that true education or good education creates a good character. Hence ethics, values and moral has an ornamental value. Keywords:
