Abstract:
No one can deny that social media is one of the most important tools introduced to society as it is used intensively in every day dialogues. The most popular social media channels are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc. They are helpful tools for people, especially when it comes to communication, and they are also very beneficial for exchanging or sharing opinions, knowledge and experience. In recent years, the use of social media has spread to many fields, both formal and informal, in order to achieve certain goals. The field of education is one of the most common formal areas that uses social media as an educational tool for guiding students, motivating them, and giving them both lectures notes and feedback. However, the continuous use of educational methods based on social media has led to an increase in the amount of data. In the literature, it is defined as Big Data. This leads to significant difficulties in analyzing and using this data to enhance educational performance, its effectiveness, and supporting primary researches that are related to education, which are difficult and sometimes impossible to perform manually. For these reasons, the Big Data Analytic Techniques must be used to achieve this goal. The main aim of this literature review paper is provide information about Big Data along with its advantages and challenges. Also, Big Data Analytic Techniques will be explained and their usage in education will discussed. We hope that this paper will help educational institutions to select suitable/effective Big Data Analytic Techniques for their needs and to analyze their Big Data to help their students.
