Abstract:
The new developments in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the continuous changes of educational and research technologies have triggered new ways of interaction between professors and students, between researchers and their projects. It is about the interference between two types of communication, training and learning: the traditional ones, carried out in the real world, in the usual academic life, and the modern ones, moved into the virtual environment, accessible only to the initiated.
In a world where the only aspect unchanged is change, education must integrate and adjust its offerings to support the new generations, constantly updating goals and resources to meet new challenges and at the same time, to provide skills and effective working tools for the learners.
The paper attempts to identify and describe the way in which the new ICT in the educational field, such as e-learning, digital television, virtual classroom, videoconference, can expand the narrow circle of interest to knowledge and communication, as well as breaking the barriers of distance in order to initiate and develop relationships among different cultures, institutions and people.
In order to be modern and attractive in its effort to train and specialize highly qualified persons, to generate and disseminate ideas, concepts and knowledge, a university should constantly learn to implement the latest innovations in the field of ICT, to promote and use them in its sphere of activity. To reach this goal, it should combine both traditional methods and modern ones, while virtualization and digitization of education and research should be the must-have of the moment. Keywords:
