Abstract:
Nowadays challenges in science and technology are a driving force in the development of contemporary solutions in education. Virtual reality brings to an edge human imagination. In this paper, authors propose a framework for civil engineering laboratory classes which brings a new quality in this area. The framework shows how to provide learners with an environment where they can realize the health and safety hazards of construction work without exposing them to potentially dangerous situations. The added value of the framework expresses itself in many features, such as a virtual tour at a construction site, interactive augmented reality, ongoing feedback, active grading system and many more. The author also highlights potential downsides and opportunities. The system which might be built on the framework also offers an insight into students habits and reaction which gives an accessible and useful tool to conduct social sciences studies for that matter. Future evolution of this framework has been discussed.
