Abstract:
Where is audiovisual language positioned in academics’ teaching strategies, materials given to students and the way the latter studies? These are some of the questions addressed by the research project “The use of mobile technologies in the teaching and learning at the university. The place of digital video”, which is being carried out by the research group TecMovAE (Mobile Technologies Applied to Education, in Spanish "Tecnologías Móviles aplicadas en la educación" at the Facultad Regional San Nicolás, Universidad Tecnológica Nacional, Argentina.

From data gathered in our research, it was found that faculty uses mobile technologies, but in a particular way: most of them display PowerPoint presentations using notebooks. It also came up that they expressed willingness to incorporate these technologies, but in general this doesn´t happen. Probably, because of the magnitude of changes they would have to do to prepare their classes.

In everyday life, students uses technology, and particularly they often access to different kinds of videos: music, instructional, educational, etc. What they know and do can benefit the way of teaching and learning. Students by themselves may bring videos to be analyzed in class, for example. Therefore, new opportunities to assign pedagogical use of mobile technologies arise, both inside and outside the classroom.

This paper is focused on two issues. The first inquiries about the social practices developed by students using videos in the frame of their studies and everyday life. The second, analyzes the students´ image related to these practices that academics have.
