Abstract:
The convergence process of the European Education System involves an assumption of a new credit system (ECTS). This system should take into account the necessary amount of work to reach an integral academic education.

A new experience to assess the work developed by alumni to pass the courses in the School of Civil Engineering (SCE) at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV), was carried out during the academic year 2004-2005. An automatic administrative system developed online has been design to reach this objective. During the first year, the 25 percent of the students at SCE participated in this experience. The UPV decided to extend the successful experience in the SCE to the rest of UPV, reaching the 20% of students.

In this communication, results of the polls belonging to the courses of “Prestress and Reinforced Concrete” of 4th year in Civil Engineer, and “Concrete” and “Prestress Concrete” of 3rd year in Technical Civil Engineer are presented. With regard to the analyzed courses the participation index is around the 30%. Results shown in this communications are: the average time used to learn the course per week, the ratio between the hours used to learn a course and the maximum score reached by the student, and the ratio between the hours and the average score of the student in all the courses.

An analysis is carried out taking into account: the type of students (new student or repeating course), and how long it takes for the student to pass the courses among other values. Furthermore, a comparative analysis between the three courses is presented as a function of the profession, the methodology and the type of calification.
