Abstract:
As mobile devices become a handy tool for delivering learning content to learners, learning now can take place anytime anywhere. To create and produce content for a target audience, content creators use authoring tools. For creating digital learning content, e-learning authoring tools allow the content creators to develop learning materials without the requirement of programming knowledge and experience. These tools not only allow the creation of customized content but also allow reuse and modification of existing contents. To encourage the content creators, like teachers, to create courses that learners can access using their personal mobile devices, authoring tools that support the development of short and mobile learning modules should become accessible as well.

This paper presents the web-based authoring tool of the Micro-learning Course Authoring System or MicroCAS platform. The tool allows content creators to produce micro-learning courses that can be accessed online using web browsers, and on the mobile devices using the mobile application. The courses can also be shared to other Learning Management Systems (LMSs) as micro-course packages, which conform to IMS Common Cartridge (CC) specifications.
