Abstract:
Flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning that turns around the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often on the web, outside of the classroom. It moves activities, including those that may have traditionally been considered homework, into the classroom. The flipped classroom is becoming increasingly well known around the University education in Malaysia. Dynamic learning is a key aspect of the flipped classroom. In our flipped classrooms, students watched methods of Plaster of Paris application 15 minutes’ videos and looked for online materials related to the topic outside the class. We were using our own video created by our institution. Valuable class time was used for doing activities like hand on application of Plaster of Paris. Students worked through what they watched, showed their procedural skills and participated in discussions. When they don't understand a concept taught, they can ask questions and get immediate targeted answers. One of the key elements was the teacher’s ability to provide just-in-time advice and corrected logical fallacies before they took hold. Our flipped classroom workshop allowed our students to spend more time for the practical skills of POP application than the traditional one. The flipped classroom POP workshop gives more freedom to teachers to decide upon how much time to spend with each student of different intelligent level.
