Abstract:
The concept of burnout was extended to include new groups (Schaufeli et al., 2002), when initially it included only occupations related to human services, i.e. education or social work. It has been shown that burnout is also experienced by university students (eg Balogun, Helgemoe, Pellegrini & Hoeberlein, 1996) or primary school students (eg Aypay, 2011, Tomaszek, Muchacka 2017). The experience of exhaustion, lack of strength related to the performance of school duties was defined as "school burnout" (Salmela-Aro et al., 2009). How Schaufeli (2002) distinguishes burnout can be combined with the experience of children or teenagers of constant stress caused by educational failures. As the basis for the discourse, the thesis was adopted that stress in modern psychology is not located either in the individual or in the environment, but concerns a specific type of relationship (interaction, transaction) between them (Lazarus, Folkman (1984), Heszen (2013)).

The aim of the research was to show the relationship between stressful situations experienced by young people and ways of dealing with them and the level of school burnout. The study used a short version of the UWES-U Questionnaire (Schaufeli, Bekker, Salanova, 2006) intended for studying the involvement in learning by students and the ESSBS Scale by A. Aypay in the adaptation of K. Tomaszek, A. Muchacka – Cymerman, to study student burnout. The study included 124 students in the age of 16 - 18 years.

Through the analysis of specialist literature and the conducted research, it is possible to derive preliminary conclusions on the influence of coping styles used by school students on the occurrence of school burnout syndrome.

The usefulness of this research is related to school practice. Knowledge about students' school burnout, its causes and consequences is very important for the teacher because burnout teachers can cause pupils to burn out. It is very important for teachers to be able to diagnose the problem of students, as well as their knowledge about the reasons and appropriate forms of support.
