Abstract:
The main purpose of this study is to develop the instruments, which help in assessment of functional skills and development of functional curriculum for children with intellectual disabilities. Three children with intellectual disabilities (2 male and 1 female) were selected whose parents showed written commitment to participate in the program. First stage, three main environments were selected such as home, school, and community then each environment was divided into different sub-environments. The information about environments and sub environments were collected from different sources such as siblings, parents, teachers and observation of children through different instruments. Collected data were organized into catalog. The developed ecological inventories were finalized in the light of feedback received from experts. Functional skills training program was developed in the light of need assessment and implemented by involving parents. The experts reported as the best tool for assessment of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. There were many changes were observed among parents in respect of their teaching style, attitude towards the education of their children, skills and confidence in task development.
