Abstract:
Information systems are widely used in all areas of life. They play a very important role in the economic field. Securely authenticating in these systems by their users is a key element in ensuring information security. This is very important for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which do not have adequate resources to ensure high security of their data.

The results of the self-assessment of knowledge about safe authentication in information systems among SME employees in Poland are presented in this paper. The research showed a fairly good level of knowledge of employees in management positions (high level was indicated by above, or only, 44% of respondents) but low among other employees (average level of non-managers was nearly 60%). The self-assessment of SME employees allowed us to identify areas of lack of knowledge about safe authentication in information systems.

These selected areas, in turn, were used to develop training programs in this field, i.e. in the field of creating study programmes in the area of security for different groups of employees in SMEs. The proposed training programs are presented in this paper.
