Abstract:
In the context of the Bologna process, globalization and the ever-increasing academic mobility of students there is an acute need to develop students’ skills of the correct, accurate and distinct statement and formulation of research ideas using an academic style of speech, for example, when writing essays, research papers and reports; presenting their research at symposia and conferences, including international ones.

Years of experience and observations have revealed the fact that even students with sufficient knowledge of one or more foreign languages, face some difficulties when writing research texts that could be comprehended by the native speakers.
Rules and norms of academic writing in one country (for example, in Russia) are not of the same standards as in other countries (for example, French- and English-speaking countries).

In drawing up the research text it is necessary to develop students’ respect for the addressee, i.e, the proposed text should be understandable for the latter. Reading the scientific literature in a foreign language on the topics of interest, the subsequent translation of scientific articles, reports, essays, etc., works out the trainees' ability to make a scientific text logically and properly structured in a foreign language.

Writing a paper, students should be taught to determine several stages of work: structure the text; divide it into sections, parts and paragraphs; select and analyse the literature on the subject; determine the special vocabulary and grammar patters; make possible diagrams, tables, etc.

The student receives a tool and uses it to achieve the objectives: to determine the object of study, to structure and organize the text, present the factual information necessary to make appropriate arguments and conclusion, make suggestions for the further development of the theme.

The abilities to use words, special expressions, taken in one or another foreign language (in this case French), to move from one part of the text to another, creating a harmonious text, following the language rules of writing scientific text are important steps in this work.
The methodology carried out by the authors is applied in the Department of Foreign Languages, Peoples' Friendship University, and is of great interest.
