Abstract:
“Escape Games”, in which players must solve a series of riddles and puzzles to escape a locked room, have become a popular trend among Millennials. Adapting this concept for teaching classes may allow students to experience a situation, where they must use their acquired knowledge to their advantage. In the course of this paper the project for a generic “Escape Room Game” is thoroughly discussed. The core of the game consists of a web application having the aim to lead players through the game. It is designed generically, hence the teacher may adapt it to any course content. The prototype provides content taken from of English courses. Alternatively, the web application could be compiled to a desktop application for any operating system and could be played with additional real objects. For instance, if courses are held in the network lab using real hardware for its puzzles, students in groups up to four may experience a mindful game on the one hand and a learning experience on the other. Since the game is adaptable, it might be played entirely online - if the content permits it.
