Abstract:
Second language writing is undoubtedly the most difficult skill for non-native speakers of English. Nevertheless, in the present global world it seems to be an essential skill since more and more students go and study abroad at the English-language medium schools where most of assessments are done in this language. This is also true for students at the faculty of Informatics and Management in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how the skill of writing, particularly of academic writing, can be developed effectively. This is done both theoretically and practically on the basis of the literature survey and author’s own experience. In addition, the author of this article argues that if students can succeed in writing one-paragraph summary, which the author considers to be a basic writing unit, then they are able to write the whole essay or article.
