Abstract:
Digital communication is an information transfer via digital signals over a wired/wireless medium. Digitalization of the World is the most relevant challenge for the industrial business processes' transformation. To implement the concept of digitalization, it is necessary to develop and build a new generation of communication networks, satisfying the needs of the industry and economics. These efforts will require a significant amount of resources, so it is very important for technical universities to be capable of graduating competent specialists.

The fifth generation of wireless network 5G is a technology called up to break through in digitalization. It founds on well-known radio waves theory. Authors are adherents of a project method of education of postgraduate students in technical universities and they believe the main goal of practical course of studying 5G is to push students clearly understand and "touch" the invisible physical phenomena.

The article describes the approach to teaching wireless digital communications for master students according to spiral model of education by means of MathWorks MATLAB Instruments to configure, generate, visualize, process and analyze simulated signals for implementing 5G systems and devices. Moreover, authors propose the toolkit for remote learning and research, so it makes the curriculum viable to pandemic conditions such as social distancing due to coronavirus disease.

The authors have an experience of using the described approach for the last two years in the Bauman Moscow State Technical University educational process.
