Abstract:
The main aim of this paper is to investigate the effectiveness of using Multi-frame Assisted Teaching Approach known as MATA on pre-university students based on one of the selected science topics. The quasi-experimental involving the 2 x 2 factorial designs have been utilised in this study. The sample for this study consisted of 60 first year Diploma Science students of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia. The students’ pre-test and post-test scores were analysed using the t-test. The findings of the study revealed that the achievement of students taught using MATA-based module were better than those students taught using conventional classroom instruction method. Moreover, there was a significant difference existed in the achievement of male and female students taught using the developed MATA-based module. It was found that the visualization of the on-going experiment, performing problem solving and multi-frames videos have strongly improved male students' achievement in this physics topic. Recommendations were made on the need to develop relevant MATA-based module for teaching other science subjects especially for topics involving hazardous materials, high cost experimental sets and time consuming experiments.
