Abstract:
With the integration of Spain into the European Higher Education Space (EHES) and the implantation of the new University Degrees, different methodological strategies to improve the performance of the teaching-learning process, have been taken. Terms as competence framework or student personal effort assessment, appear on the educational scene with the new curricula and degrees. One of the most debated items among college teachers is the students’ attendance to the classes. Must it be compulsory? Which are the most appropriated control mechanisms to do it? Must teachers include the assistance in the assessment of the students’ personal effort? etc. These are questions that should be debate and discussion.

We have analyzed the behavior of one students group. They all are studying the “Electronic and Automatic Control Engineering Degree” at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). In their third academic course, students must course the subject “Digital electronics”, on which was performed this work.

In the paper, a statistical study relating the scores obtained by students with their attendance to lectures is presented. Likewise, proposals about "school attendance" as a first step to achieve the competency objectives of the course are performed.
