Abstract:
This paper reflects on a learning experience designed to enhance thought and reflection on visual media as a support for improving professional skills in media production for Media students at Universitat Jaume I of Castellón (UJI). Sala Caligari is a space created by a group of lecturers to reflect, think and discuss in a relaxed atmosphere with students about contemporary visual media (films, series, photography) withouth the constraints of a closed syllabus or an evaluation process. The results of this experience can be seen in the students, the lecturers and the relationship among them. The results also include the consolidation Oculus —a University Media Contest— where students can present their own projects. The overall goal of this experience is to help students reflect on contemporary media and to create quality projects to build a good portfolio by the end of their degree so that they can get better employment chances. The project has been run as an Educational Innovation Seminar developed during three years at UJI.
