Abstract:
The study is aimed at elaborating methods of teaching successful English business communication through the correct understanding and appropriate usage of stylistic devices in business context. Quotes and allusions, phraseological units, lexical and syntactic repetitions and other stylistic means or rhetorical figures and the additional meanings that they create in business discourse are the objects of investigation in the article. The pragmalinguistic effect of the utterances containing the devices mentioned goes far beyond making the speech more vivid thus attracting more attention of the listener. Stylistic means of the language used in business context often play an important role in forming positive communicative strategies appealing to cognitive structures and archetypes of representatives of different societies and countries, conveying world view and position of the speaker or simply the relation to the matters discussed either implicitly or explicitly. Methods of contextual and discourse analyses are applied in the research. Analyzing the role of stylistic devices in articles and official speeches on economic issues authors come to the conclusion that such language means reveal the essence of cultural interaction and understanding this essence is the key to successful communication within any professional field. Thus understanding the message of rhetoric figures and possible impact on the listener that they create belongs to the sphere of basic communicative competences that students of English should develop under teachers' control and with teachers' careful guidelines.
