Abstract:
The Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) is one of the largest and most prestigious public universities of Mexico. It has 5 campuses, with a current total enrollment of 44712 undergraduate students [1]. In this work we analyze some of the indicators of the UAM, try to determine a trend for them and study the impact of planning in the results as well. We analyze some of the indicators for all the UAM and those for the Science and Engineering Division of the Azcapotzalco Campus (CBI-A) [2]. Based on our analysis we identify some possible problems which may arise in the near future.

The number of freshmen in total at the UAM reached a maximum of 13039 in the year of 1987, then decreased to a minimum of 9249 in the year of 1994 and was of 12085 in the year of 2015. That is, there has been a decrease of 7.32% with respect to the maximum. This decrement has occurred despite that the UAM has increased its campuses and the country is striving to increase the enrollment in its public higher education institutions.

The number of freshmen in the CBI-A reached a maximum of 2385 in the year of 2010, then decreased to a minimum of 1249 in the year of 2015. That is, there has been a decrement of 47.63% with respect to the maximum.

The number of graduates in total at the UAM reached a maximum of 5334 in the year of 2012, and the number of graduates in the year of 2015 was of 5147. The number of graduates in the CBI-A reached a maximum of 574 in the year of 2014, while the number of graduates in the year of 2015 was of 527. If the number of freshmen reduces, the number of graduates will decrease in the future.

The number of trimesters necessary to finish a career in the Iztapalapa and Azcapotzalco campuses are the highest in all the UAM with 18 trimesters. The number of years necessary to finish a career in the CBI-A is of almost 7 years.

The UAM as a whole has an institutional development plan for the years 2011-2024 which has not been updated and there has not been a development plan elaborated for the CBI-A since more than 4 years ago.
The results of our study will be presented at the meeting.
