Abstract:
The Mathematical Olympiad is an official, well-known competition between students of primary and secondary schools. In Slovak Republic, it is organized by Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport in cooperation with Union of Slovak Mathematicians and Physicists and Slovak Committee of Mathematical Olympiad.

The Mathematical Olympiad participants solve the problems of mathematics that motivate them to creative activity, support their logical thinking and improve their theoretical knowledge in mathematics and relative disciplines. Moreover, participants gain the recognition of teachers and classmates. The best students qualify to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held annually in one of the participating countries.

Since its first appearance in 1959, Czechoslovakia has participated in 33 IMO, with its students receiving 10 gold, 50 silver and 73 bronze medals. Since 1993, when Czechoslovakia has been divided into two successor states, the teams of the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic are participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad separately. In our contribution we study the development of the Czech and Slovak teams from 1993 to 2018.
