Abstract:
The industry-university collaboration in an open innovation context has been recently intensified, as it has become an important contributor to innovation. However, a multi-perspective evaluation of such collaboration is still scarce, resulting in a less complete understanding of the importance and performance aspects of its components. Within this framework, this research aims to offer an insight into the relative importance and performance of the main determinants of the open innovation between industry and university within a Romanian environment through the employment of the importance-performance map analysis.

For this purpose, this study used the results of a survey that was conducted to identify the components of the five major determinants of open innovation between the industry-university in a Romanian environment. The perceived performance of each component of the five major determinants was considered as the mean of the responses of the participants at the survey. The correlation coefficient between each component and the degree to which universities are perceived as an external source of open innovation activities was employed as the measure of the related importance. In this way, the components that have both relatively high importance and low performance were identified. Based on the results of the importance-performance map analysis, areas for improvement can be prioritized.
